Hyundai Azera

We recently got our first official sneak peak at the upcoming 2012 Hyundai Azera, but the South Korean automaker keeps dropping new information and pictures on its mid-size sedan that will take its place between the Sonata and the Genesis. This time we have details on the engine options for the KDM version, which will continue to use the Grandeur nameplate.

In South Korea, the Azera will be offered with a choice of two naturally aspirated engines, both featuring direct-injection technology. The base model will be powered by the same 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder gasoline unit found on the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima, while the flagship version will be motivated by a 3.0-liter GDi V6 delivering 270HP and 31.6 kg/m of peak torque.

The company states on the official brochure that the four-cylinder model will return an average fuel consumption of 12.8 km/lt (equal to 30.1 mpg US and 7.8 lt/100km), while the V6, 11.6 km/lt (27.3 mpg US or 8.6 lt/100km).

Hyundai has not made any comments or announcements regarding the powertrain options for the North American version of the Azera, though likely it will be offered exclusively with V6 engines. Recently, the South Korean automaker said that the Azera may get its North American debut at the New York Auto Show next April.

It is capable of producing 177 horsepower and will be mated to company’s new dual clutch automatic transmission.The Hyundai i40 Coupe will be offered with both diesel and petrol engines, including a 1.7-litre and a 1.6-litre unit. The Hyundai i40 Coupe 1.7 diesel will be sold in two power output versions of 115bhp and 140bhp. The details of the Hyundai i40 Coupe 1.6 petrol are not yet clear, but it is known is that it will be offered with both a manual and an automatic transmission.

Hyundai is going to officially unveil the 2011 Hyundai Elantra at the LA Auto Show this coming Wednesday. But in the meantime little details about one of Hyundai's best-selling models have been leaking out.

It looks like all the new compact sedans are getting 40 mpg or more and the 2011 Elantra will now be included in that list. The Elantra will get 40 mpg on the highway and 29 mpg in the city. That puts it head to head with the 2012 Ford Focus and right behind the Chevy Cruze Eco that gets 42 mpg on the highway. Hyundai Recalls 2011 Sonata

Hyundai had to issue a recall after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed a problem in the car’s steering wheel column. Apparently some universal joint connections are either improperly assembled or insufficiently tightened. And it’s a big recall with 139,500 units involved. The affected cars are built between December 11, 2009, through September 10, 2010.

On cars manufactured between Dec. 11, 2009, and Sept. 10, 2010, the steering column shaft universal joint may have been improperly assembled or not tightened enough. You can check your car’s manufacture date on a sticker on the driver’s side doorjamb.

The problem is significant enough that a complete separation could occur, leading to reduction or loss of steering. Dealers will inspect the cars, replace defective parts and update the steering software free of charge.

This is a significant recall for Hyundai. The automaker has been riding a wave of sales success spearheaded by the redesigned Sonata, which has been a top 10 best-seller for the past few months.

The recall is expected to begin in October but no specific date was given. For more information, owners can call Hyundai at 800-633-5151 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.
