Developed around the concept of new and more refined designs for comfort plus performance, the third-generation Impreza features streamlined "5-door packaging", while it offers a rewarding and safe ride enhanced by Subaru Symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel Drive) with the Horizontally-Opposed engine and the newly developed chassis. The new Impreza has been developed under the theme, "Providing a fascinating Subaru distinctive value." In accordance with Subaru's philosophy, the core mechanism of Subaru Symmetrical AWD (All-Wheel Drive) with a Boxer engine continues to provide an enjoyable ride with fun to drive handling for the driver, as it integrates performance with advanced safety and environmental considerations.

Impreza's Development Philosophy
Three key words were selected to develop the new Impreza, based on the concept of new and more refined designs for comfort. While advancing a sporty, safe and reliable drive that the Impreza series have consistently delivered, FHI has pursued to incorporate much higher levels of comfort and quality in the new model than any in its category offers.

Exterior design

The system helps eliminate harmful substances when the powertrain is still cool, and it promotes early activation of a catalytic converter.

Chassis / Body
The lower center of gravity, enabled by the Boxer engine, has been enhanced by mounting the engine front 22 mm lower on the chassis, thereby further improving stability. The strut-type front suspension is supported by newly designed front cross members. Employing box-shaped steel tubing, the new cross members further support the suspension, as well as improve crash worthiness. New York, April 1, 2010 – Subaru of America today introduced a new 4-door version of the Impreza WRX STI performance flagship model. This will be the first time that the WRX STI has been offered in two body styles (5-door and 4-door).
Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) unveiled the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and WRX (U.S. specifications) models today at the New York International Auto Show (Press day: March 31 and April 1; Open to the public fromApril 2 through 11).In addition to the new styling, the 2011 WRX STI features heavily revised suspension tuning and lighter 18-inch wheels for even sharper handling.

For the first time in three years, Subaru is offering up a four-door sedan version of their performance icon, the WRX STI. This is the first time that Subaru has ever offered an STI in two body styles. That’s right, you can also buy the five-door STI. And while we love hot little performance wagons, you have to admit the wing is pretty sweet. Or at least admit that the four-door Impreza body is so… awkward looking (we know, we know) that the looks are actually improved by a 14-inch wing.

New for the STI(s) this year is an improved suspension consisting of stiffer bushings, stiffer springs, and thicker anti-roll bars at both ends of the car. The 2011 STI also sports less unsprung weight than the 2010 model due to lighter 18-inch wheels that are a combined 17.6 pounds less heavy. While power is unchanged (305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque), high-speed stability of the four door is greatly improved, as is at the limit handling, by you guessed it that mega wing.

2010 Subaru Outback

Last year, the Forester SUV was completely retooled, and it has sold briskly. For 2010, the long-running Outback gets its overhaul, and it's a doozy.

The Outback has gone from a car-like station wagon to an SUV-like crossover, just like that. It's bigger in nearly every exterior and interior dimension, which resolves the issues past owners had with interior space and gives it a much more comfortable ride. It may not be as fun to drive as before, but it's a better family vehicle that still exudes ruggedness and foul-weather capability.

At first glance, the 2010 Outback — with its beefy dimensions, large grille and sharp-edged design — looks nothing like the previous model.

Sixteen-inch wheels are standard on the base 2.5i, with 17-inch alloys becoming standard on all other trim levels.

The layout of the dash has changed quite a bit, with the clock and trip computer raised to the top of the dash. They're still easy to read in direct sunlight. Below them rests a new stereo unit or optional navigation system. There are also convenient cubbies for cell phones, CDs or other items.

Overall, the materials are a step up from the previous model and stand up to most of the competition, but they still lag behind the relatively upscale Toyota Venza.

The most extreme alteration for the 2010 models is the interior's overall spaciousness. Anyone who sat in the old model knows it can be cramped, especially in the backseat. Subaru stretched the wheelbase of the 2010, adding nearly 4 inches of rear legroom.
